Background educational value of the establishment of modern Olympic Games

Contrary to what nowadays is thought in general about the meaning of sport spectacle of the Olympic Games, the start of the Olympic ideals arose from an idea of educational reform. The extensive media coverage of sport competitions, made almost from its beginning, the confrontation in the IOC itself, by the revolutionary ideas of Coubertin to educational level, were relegated to the background and in many cases rejected. Even this misunderstanding was one of the reasons that led Coubertin to resign as President of the IOC, to keep fighting at other levels for its sporty educational ideology, often criticizing global sports leaders members of the Olympic Committee, which never understood the true sportsmanship, but had become mere "technical consultants". That confrontation between sport and education has not only maintained but today this separation has been enlarged. Nevertheless, how was born this dichotomy between sport and education? The present study aims to analyze these differences by reviewing educational values that Coubertin established through the Olympic Games.
