Physical education: a discipline anchored in the past, front of a posmodern world

This article tries to give a critical perspective about the present state of physical education in Colombia. In first place, it presents concepts that support the main idea that physical education is relegated and backward compared with the modern world. Then, the article makes criticisms about the old and traditional practices that still today are still used in classrooms in schools, later mention how the body has become an appendage of little use due to the comforts and technological advances in the postmodern world, thus generating a series of challenges for physical education teachers insofar as they must have the capacity to promote physical activity and movement with all these problems. Finally, it presents some reflections generated concerning to the need for change and the possibilities to do with the work of the new generations of students and teachers.
