¿Por qué el estudio del panteón deportivo brinda una perspectiva novedosa para abordar los posibles sentidos y significados atribuidos a la vida, la muerte, el funeral y/o la biografía póstuma de las personalidades deportivas? El libro Muertes, funerales, biografías póstumas y deportes en la Argentina (siglos XX y XXI), compilado por Pablo Ariel Scharadrogsky y César R. Torres, ambos destacados investigadores en el campo de la educación física y del deporte y además autores de algunos de los capítulos, y editado por Prometeo Editorial (2025), demuestra que este objeto de estudio es una
interesante ventana que permite avizorar procesos históricos que trascienden el universo deportivo.
El libro plantea la categoría del panteón deportivo, en este caso, asociada a la identidad nacional argentina. Lo definen como un espacio material y/o simbólico en constante cuestionamiento, integrado por ciertos deportistas cuya fama, en muchos casos, trasciende fronteras. Las figuras deportivas son elegidas estratégicamente por actores, grupos e instituciones sociales para crear, producir y cuestionar sentidos y significados en torno a la vida, la muerte, el funeral y la biografía póstuma.
