Abstract

Current sport situation continues to show the enormous media impact of doping, and the importance of how the athlete under suspicion appears exposed, either to praise or to judge. However, this relationship has its precedents in recent history, having as reference the period of the last years of Franco’s regime and early times of democratic transition, due to its importance for the society as well as for sport in the Spanish context. Through the specialized press (Marca, Mundo Deportivo, As), we will analyze the historical role played sports media in Spain related to the athlete suspected of doping: sometimes under the “law of silence”, sometimes under an apparent naivety, and in other cases, comprehensive to the difficulties of the athlete.
