The ideological pluralism in the proposals of sports policy at the beginning of spanish democracy. The case study of Catalonia (1977-1988)
Keywords:
ideology, sport, political parties, pluralism, politics.Abstract
This article aims at determining the degree of ideological pluralism of sports policy proposals in Catalonia between 1977 and 1988. To this end a tool of analysis has been designed theoretically based on several referents that have previously approached the subject, mainly from the United Kingdom, where the relationship between ideology and sports policy has been studied in depth. Considering a series of variables, the approaches to sport of the Partit dels Socialistes de Cataluña (PSC-PSOE), the electoral coalition of CiU (Convergència Democràtica de Cataluña y Unió Democràtica de Cataluña) and the Partit Socialista Unificat de Cataluña (PSUC), converted into IC (Iniciativa per Cataluña) in 1987 have been compared from an ideological point of view. The results obtained with the said tool show that, though within a consensus context, there were some differences in the approaches of the different political parties, and consequently, it is possible to affirm that indeed there was a certain degree of ideological pluralism in the sports policy offer during that period.
