One of the main problems of today's cities is heavy air pollution caused largely by emissions of GreenHouse Gases (GHG) into the atmosphere. The roofs of the buildings are presented in this context, as constructive elements which enter plant surfaces that help offset these emissions. The green roofs, as part of urban green infrastructure, act as sinks for CO2. This article discusses the benefits and consequences of introducing green roofs in public facilities as places of opportunity, focusing on improving quantification of CO2 emissions and the role they play in the green network configuration inside the city of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
