Abstract

“En Fisterra hai o Mar de dentro e o Mar de fora” 1. El primero se traduce en la apacible calma que supone la llegada a casa, el segundo, ilimitado en extensión y peligroso en condición, pero de gran belleza, es el lugar del que todos desean volver. Asomados al mar de dentro, viendo transcurrir su existencia, una docena de cadáveres de granito y hormigón se corrompen con el paso del tiempo. Bajo un estado de abandono material, el cementerio de César Portela permanece en continua transformación por la acción del tiempo.
Un proceso de envejecimiento que adquiere una condición dual entre permanencia, una lucha continua frente a las lesiones causadas por la acción derivada de la naturaleza; y pertenencia, donde las alteraciones matéricas humanizan la arquitectura y la hacen partícipe del modo en que nos relacionamos con los muertos, representando la muerte como parte del ciclo de la naturaleza y estableciendo un diálogo íntimo con el lugar.

The first translates into the peaceful calm representing the homecoming, the second, unlimited in extension and dangerous in condition, but of great beauty, is the place from which everyone wants to return. Leaning out into the sea from within, watching their existence go by, a dozen granite and concrete corpses become corrupted with time. Under a state of material abandonment, the César Portela cemetery remains in continuous transformation due to the action of time. An ageing process that acquires a dual condition between permanence, a continuous fight against the scars caused by the action derived from nature; and belonging, where material alterations humanize architecture and make it participate in the way we relate to the dead, representing death as part of the cycle of nature and establishing an intimate dialogue with the place.
