Structural cracks in columns, beams and joists can pose an enormous risk to the integrity of a building structure, as they can progress to extend through its entire thickness. It is therefore necessary to carry out monitoring to prevent structural risks from increasing and, where possible, to propose measures to repair them. This increases the likelihood of taking action before structural collapse occurs. This work has produced and patented a device (ES1293890 U) for remote monitoring of cracks in buildings and for load testing, capable of recording millimetre variations in cracks and fissures in buildings for detailed monitoring (J. M. Rodríguez Rego et al., 2022). The device resulting from this work did not register significant differences in the values collected with respect to the crack tester and the dial gauge, so it can be concluded that the device has great potential for use in the construction of buildings, improving the current state of the art.
