Es durante el año 2000, cuando el Gobierno del Principado de Asturias empieza a formular la necesidad de desarrollar un Plan Estratégico para la rehabilitación de la Universidad Laboral de Gijón. Así, se plantea la completa recuperación y puesta en valor del complejo arquitectónico, implantando en el mismo, nuevos usos capaces de generar un potencial dinamizador cultural, que transcienda no solamente a la propia ciudad y su entorno más inmediato, sino también que refleje su influencia a nivel nacional e internacional.
En este proyecto, ya se propone la ubicación del Centro de Arte Actual en las naves situadas en el extremo nordeste del conjunto de talleres de la Universidad Laboral.

Abstract

It is during the year 2000, when the government of the Prince hood of Asturias starts to formulate the need to develop a strategic plan for the rehabilitation of the "Universidad Laboral de Gijón", In this way the complete recovery and put in value of the architectural complex, introducing in it new uses, capable of generating a cultural revitalizing potential, which would transcend not only in the city and its immediate surroundings, but that would show its influence at a national and international level.
This project proposes the placement of the Actual Art Centre in the naves located at the northeast extreme of the aggregate of workshops of the Labour University.
