El ensanche de Vallecas: ¿un ensanche diferente?

Estamos en un momento en el que la construcción, y todo lo que ésta conlleva, está en un punto máximo y, sin embargo, simultáneamente, muchos de los planteamientos urbanísticos están casi agotados.Vemos múltiples desarrollos urbanos isótropos, desarrollos que, sin jerarquización alguna, extienden la ciudad y en los que además la arquitectura que se construye, a pesar de su innegable calidad técnica, resulta en muchos casos monótona y repetitiva. ¿Es ésta la muestra real de la arquitectura y el urbanismo del momento? ¿Es posible encontrar algo diferente en que depositar nuevas esperanzas? Tomando Madrid como ejemplo, tal vez sea el ensanche de Vallecas un ejercicio que invita al optimismo.

Abstract

At this time construction, and all that it entails, has reached a maximum point yet, at the same time, many town planning approaches have been almost exhausted.We see many isotropic urban developments, developments which extend the city with no hierarchical organisation whatsoever and in which, furthermore, the architecture that is constructed, despite its undeniable technical quality, is in many cases monotonous and repetitive. Is this a real example of today’s architecture and town planning? Is it possible to find something different on which to pin our hopes? If we take Madrid as an example, perhaps the Vallecas Suburban Development project is one place where we could still pin some hopes.
