La propuesta lefebvriana del concepto de ‘derecho a la ciudad’ fue revolucionaria, en todos los sentidos del término. La intensa recuperación reciente de esta idea ha supuesto un revulsivo para numerosos movimientos sociales, pero también ha generado toda una serie de malas interpretaciones y tergiversaciones que le hacen correr el riesgo de perder su sentido original. Releyendo varios pasajes de Lefebvre, el presente artículo intenta restituir al concepto su signifi cado inicial con el fi n de evitar la dilución de su objetivo radical en el discurso urbano dominante.

Abstract

The Lefebvrian proposition of the concept of the ‘right to the city’ was revolutionary in every sense of the term. The recent intense recovery of this idea has been a boost for many social movements, but it has also given rise to several misunderstandings and misrepresentations that run the risk of losing sight of his original meaning. Re-reading several passages from Lefebvre, this paper strives to restore the concept’s original meaning in order to prevent the dilution of its radical goal within the prevailing urban discourse.
