La adopción del sistema métrico decimal supuso una revolución respecto a los sistemas tradicionales de medir. En los ladrillos provoca los primeros estudios para adaptar las piezas a las nuevas medidas y la coordinación de estas medidas para poder colocar correctamente las piezas en la fábrica en distintas posiciones.
Se analizan, en los tratados de construcción del siglo XIX y primera mitad del siglo XX, la evolución de las medidas de los ladrillos y su coordinación y se comparan con datos
tomados en los propios edificios. Esto permite establecer conclusiones respecto a la utilización real de ladrillos con coordinación total o parcial, su repercusión en utilizaciones
a hueso o con junta y los recursos utilizados en las fábricas cuando no existe coordinación total, cuestiones que nunca quedan recogidas en los tratados de construcción.
Abstract
The adoption of the decimal metric system implied a great change in the traditional measuring systems. Regarding bricks, it originated the first studies carried out to adapt the brick units to the new dimensions and to coordinate these measures to permit the placing of the brickwork pieces correctly in the different positions.
In this article, the evolution of the brick dimensions and their coordination from the construction treaties of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century are compared to the data collected in different building from that time. This allows making conclusions on the precise use of the brick with total or partial coordination, its repercussions with the mortar or dry bond, as well as the resources used in brickwork when there is no total coordination – issues which do not appear in the construction treaties.
